Our client, an ad tech platform focused on mobile network, carrier level, WiFi and geolocation/geospatial data, is looking for a Head of Data Science to come run their Data Science team.  This is a Director level position within the company, and is the most senior role in Data Science.  Our client has recently raised a Series B round of funding at $20M which is in the bank, and they are set to more than double in team size over the next several months.  This is an incredible earlier stage opportunity to make a significant architectural and algorithmic focused impact on the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a small team of Data Scientists to solve complex and challenging problems
  • Define enterprise data strategy and data monetization processes
  • Analyze rich streams of unstructured data to find correlations between events and identify opportunities to optimize defined desired outcomes
  • Feed insights into innovative algorithms (Artificial Intelligence welcome!) that you develop
  • Research, model, build, and test your algorithms
  • Measure the effectiveness of your work via digital ad campaign performance metrics
  • Identify opportunities to leverage data sets in novel manners

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Deep experience in predictive modeling, hypothesis testing, neural networks, machine learning, and algorithm development
  • Significant experience with the majority of the following: R, Matlab, Python, Scala, Java, Pig, Hadoop, Storm, Cassandra, Hive, Spark, MapReduce, SQL, NoSQL
  • Be able to get your hands dirty; you should be equally comfortable coding a simulation as you are applying formal analysis to outcomes
  • In addition to top notch mathematical skills, have business acumen and "common sense" required for real world (as opposed to purely academic) problems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to explain complex concepts to a relatively wide audience in a clear and concise manner
  • A team player and a collaborator; someone who can teach and who can learn
  • A sense of humor and humility
  • M.S. in Statistics or Mathematics with a concentration in Computer Science

Nice to Have

  • Digital advertising platform algorithm development experience
  • Experience with Data Management Platform (DMP) pricing models
  • Experience with real time bidding (RTB) systems and digital ad exchanges
  • A background in Econometrics
